Clean Out Your Closets. Help Keep Cornwall Green!
If you’ve been meaning to clean out your closets, now’s the perfect time. The Town of Cornwall has partnered with Helpsy to install a new textile recycling bin near Munger Cottage, making it easy for residents to give unwanted clothing and household textiles a second life.
Most of us know about donating gently used clothing to organizations like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. But what about those worn-out towels, mismatched socks, old sneakers, ripped jeans, or faded sheets? That’s where Helpsy comes in.
Helpsy accepts all kinds of clean, dry, and bagged textiles, even items that are no longer wearable. Clothing, shoes, linens, blankets, curtains, handbags, stuffed animals, luggage, and more can all be dropped off. If it’s made of fabric and it’s clean, chances are Helpsy can find a new purpose for it.
Here’s the best part: every pound collected earns the Town of Cornwall seven cents, with the proceeds helping support projects that keep our town and villages greener and blooming.
It’s a simple way for all of us to make a difference.
Consider this. Americans throw away about 36 billion pounds of textiles every year, and nearly 10% of our landfill space is filled with discarded clothing and fabric. The good news is that 95% of those textiles can actually be reused, repurposed, or recycled instead of ending up in a landfill.
Helpsy has already helped divert more than 30 million pounds of textiles from landfills each year through its recycling bins, clothing drives, and community partnerships. Now Cornwall is part of that effort.
So the next time you’re cleaning out a closet, don’t toss those old textiles in the trash. Bag them up and bring them to the new Helpsy bin near Munger Cottage. It’s an easy way to reduce waste, support our community, and do something good for the environment. A small effort from each of us can make a big difference for Cornwall!
